The Bicycle Alliance of Washtenaw was founded in 2017 on a simple idea: that when cyclists, advocates, and local groups come together, amazing things can happen.
We exist to connect the diverse biking community across Washtenaw County- from kids learning to ride and families who cycle together, to newcomers just getting started, longtime riders, local bike clubs, advocacy groups, and beyond. Our mission is to be a central hub: a launching point for new riders, a home base for events and collaboration, and a trusted connector between people, organizations, and the resources they need.
We believe that community comes first. Through events like the Bike Summit, Film Fest, and Handlebar Happy Hours, we create space for riders to meet, share ideas, and build lasting relationships. These gatherings aren’t just fun, they’re how we grow a more inclusive and vibrant cycling culture across the county.
We're also deeply committed to advocating for a safer, more bike-friendly Washtenaw. That means supporting better bike infrastructure, safer streets, and policies that put people first. We work to keep the community informed and engaged, bridging the gap between cyclists and decision-makers to ensure rider voices are heard.
BAW is for everyone—whether you've never biked before, you ride once a month, or you're on two wheels every day. Building a connected, cycling-friendly Washtenaw doesn’t start with gear or speed. It starts with people.
Bicycle Alliance of Washtenaw currently operates as a “doing business as” of Walk Bike Washtenaw.

Borrow a Cargo Bike A2!
We are excited to offer the inexpensive or free use of three different types of cargo bikes for up to seven days at a time!
Borrow a Cargo Bike A2 is a partnership between Urban Rider Cargo Bikes, the Office of Sustainability and Innovations at the City of Ann Arbor, and the Bicycle Alliance of Washtenaw.
Our goal is to increase the access and use of cargo bikes and give folks an opportunity to see if they might be able to replace more car trips with bike trips and haul things like kids, groceries, and even robots!
